about

a note from me
hi folks and welcome!
I’m robyn floyd (she/her), registered psychotherapist and founder of a place to pause.
being a therapist is a responsibility and honour I take seriously, and a meaningful and fulfilling part of my identity.
I am an advocate for self-care and for taking space to unwind, connect, and be nurtured by what calms and inspires us – hence, finding those places to pause.

this work allows me to connect deeply with others and foster some much-needed human connection. my practice is inspired by our unique and shared humanity – we all embody edges, hardships, and “flaws” which I believe are to be honoured and safely explored. I find value in nurturing the hardened parts that we have learned to hide, in welcoming vulnerability, and re-defining what is “normal” and “acceptable”.
as we learn to approach and accept these parts of ourselves, we can connect more wholly and authentically in our lives and with others. as we deepen our self work and explore our tendencies, we learn what serves us and what keeps us from accessing a preferred or more meaningful existence.
but beginning this work is not easy; it is important to me that as you take this step into therapy, you are met with compassion, safety, and intention.
my goal is to bring warmth and a balance of depth and ease to our sessions. I aim to support you in exploring your past, understanding patterns of behaviour, and helping you make meaning of your experiences. it is important we work together to deepen your insight, develop self-awareness, and pursue what it means for you to develop a healthy relationship with experiences of tension, difficulty, and disconnect, while also recognizing these experiences as symptoms of something deeper (such as anxiety, stress, trauma, loss, or other disruptions life has handed you).

I work with a variety of treatment needs and am keen on finding that “just right” fit with my clients. I take an eclectic approach in therapy and use a variety of therapeutic approaches to support you in reaching your treatment goals. I am trained in several treatment modalities including acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion-focused individual therapy, narrative therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I participate in ongoing training and professional development so I am prepared to meet your treatment needs, and am always open to learning modalities that may be important or fitting for you. I use a mindfulness-based and trauma-informed approach to help you feel safe, supported, and connected in our sessions.
I am accepting of all cultural, sexual, and gender identities, and am always striving to maintain a safe and welcoming space for you. -
I am a registered psychotherapist with the college of registered psychotherapists of ontario (crpo). I have a master of arts in counselling psychology from yorkville university, an honours bachelor of arts in psychology and criminology from the university of western ontario, and an advanced diploma in child and youth work from humber college.
I have worked in group private practice, with insurance-related disability claims, and in institutional settings for the mental health and correctional communities. I have over a decade of experience supporting adolescents and adults in processing trauma, anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties; navigating life transitions; and developing self-awareness, boundaries, and identity. I have also worked with a range of mood, personality, and psychotic disorders.
my professional experiences have inspired me to create treatment plans that meet the intricacies of each client’s unique experience.

when I am not working with clients, I am soaking up every ounce of family time and watching my little ones (human and fur) explore the world. I love spending time outdoors, hiking local trails, sitting by the lake, or working around the house. finding time to reset and reconnect through meditation, yoga, and self-reflection is an important part of my routine. I love supporting local businesses and communities, and am often seeking out new markets, cafés, and shops to explore. I enjoy reading and listening to podcasts, and am passionate about finding new ways to support and connect with others.
